Comfort Food

The husband is off playing hockey with the boys (all the boys...boys from work, boys from university days, boys from church, groomsmen boys). I spent the evening making and eating my comfort food of the moment...scones with strawberry jam.

Leila joined me...She's the one true fan of ALL my cooking and baking.

A Sick, Sad Weekend

I spent the weekend nursing a cold. We drove to Squamish on Saturday because the Husband had to attend a funeral for an old friend who tragically passed away in an ATV accident. Sadly, he left behind his one week old baby. I slept in the car the entire way there, back and while Steve attended the funeral. Managed to get this shot near Porteau Cove while we were driving though.

Since we were in Squamish and it was a nice day, we headed to Whistler for a meal. I wish I had felt better so I could have enjoyed it more. Our dog just attracts all sorts of strangers. Here's a tourist taking photo and video footage of OUR dog.

Resurrected

Halleluuujah! My old camera has a new lease on life thanks to an electronic wonder-worker at church who can fix just about any "tronic" thing.

Retrieved from my camera, right before its untimely but short-lived death... the lagoon at Disney's California Adventure Park. Disney's way of educating tourists about California...Land of Golden Dreams ... and Mickey

A Perfect Stranger

Last night, the husband and I took the dog for a late night walk along English Bay. While walking, we approached a lady in her 60's with her grown children. She took an immediate interest in Leila, petting her, cooing at her and eventually picked up OUR dog to cuddle her. Then she stated, "I have something you need", reached into her purse and fumbled around for something. I was slightly worried. She eventually pulled out a folded sheet of yellowing paper with these typewritten words on it, handed it to me and said, "You can learn lots from you dog".

After a particularly rough day, it was just what I needed. Thanks fellow dog lover, whoever you are!

My favorite line...Avoid biting when a simple growl will do!

On a teaching note, one of the little boys in my class was late for school today. As I held the door open to let him in and greeted him, Good Morning, he sweetly smiled at me and said, I'm sorry I'm late for school Mrs. Lai. I had to take a last minute poop.
Good enough reason for me!

Stylin

My good friend Hannah (also my partner in teacher crime and bubble tea buddy) and I went to have our mops cut today after school. However, while we were having our hair done, the husband phoned saying that I had trapped him at school since I had his keys (car and house). Oooopps. Needless to say, I'm sure he is caught up in his marking now. And if my hair looks haphazardly cut, it's because the stylist was rushing.

With freshly cut hair, Hannah and I went to have one of our usual meals together. Chinese savoury rice porridge with pork and thousand year old egg. Mmmmm...

A special photo for my loyal reader. You know who you are!

Powers of Persuasion

So, the husband agreed to purchase the lovely little pink camera last night and we went to take a look at it at the store today. However, I'm not totally sold on it because of the screen size. Darn! I thought I had it all figured out. Might be back to just plain old silver.

Until then, will have to be creative in blogging without new photos. Arrgh

Paying the 10k Price

I am paaayying the price for yesterday's run/walk. Boy, can I feel the burn. What I really wanted to do today was wheel myself around my classroom in my rollie teacher chair...but twenty-two 7/8 year olds would never have let me get away with that.

I sent two students home today with stomach pain...Arrgh...Tell me it's not the stomach flu! I fear it like the plague. Germs are bad. Will be washing my hands a jillion times a day, for the rest of the week!

Also, contemplating which camera to purchase since my DH put ours to sleep permanantly at Disneyland over Spring Break.

This is my first choice. If you can't tell, it's pink. Any ideas on how I can conceal the color from the husband until it's too late and he's paid for it? hehee

Next Item on My Shopping List

I stumbled on this book in a bookstore over Spring break and I've decided that it is definitely worth the $20 needed to purchase it. Besides the fact that it has fabulous photos...I think I will make it a travel guide/goal for our next few trips. For the record, we've made it to 20 out of the 100 places. The question is...how many can we cover this summer?

Left Foot, Right Foot, Left Foot, Right Foot...

The 24th annual Sun Run. I ran/walked with many of the staff at our school and 59,000 other people. Great experience and great sights along the way...but I don't understand the people who chose to start with the runners and immediately began walking at the starting line creating obstacles for everyone to dodge around. HOW RUDE.

Still Relishing in the Adventures of Spring Break Past

Three weeks later...I am still basking in the glow of having accomplished a childhood dream of swimming with dolphins. Thank you to my finned friend, Yulia, at Cabo Dolphin Adventures!

Literally, riding on Yulia around the dolphin pool.

Crazy view from the balcony of our cabin. Cruising!

Alas, they are now just memories. However, everytime I catch a glimpse of these photos on my pretty bulletin board in my classroom (you know the one by my desk that is just saved for only my work and not the kids) it makes me sigh and smile in a way only travel can bring about.
